Located west of Udon Thani and Nong Khai, Loei is particularly picturesque. Forming a boundary between the North and Northeast, Loei province is a typical region of Isan. National Park Phu RueaAmounting to over 1365 meters above sea level, the other has a picturesque mountain peak covered with pine forest. Phu Ruea is 60 km. west of Loei, along Highway No. 203. Phrathat Song RakAmphoe Dan Sai in on the banks of the river Man, 83 km. Loei, the chedi was built in 1560 to house the sacred relics of Buddha. The chedi is characterized by a Lao-style architecture, and was erected as a token of friendship between Ayutthaya and the Kingdom of Laos in Vientiane. Nature Reserve Phu LuangCovering an area of 897 km2, this tray covered with lush vegetation has a cool climate all year round. Some parts of the park are open to visitors who can follow a path of 6 km. through a pine forest, fields, and meadows covered with flowers along a rocky plateau. The best time to go trekking is from October to May Visitors must be accompanied by an official guide. Wat Pho ChaiLocated at Ban Na Phueng, in Amphoe Na Haeo, this temple houses a statue of Phra Ong Chao Saen (also known as the Fon Saen Ha statue) which, according to the beliefs, ensures sufficient levels of rain . The Chapel, 400 year old, well worth a visit, its interior is decorated with frescoes depicting the life of Buddha. Namtok Tat HuangAlso known as the Thai-Lao Namtok these huge waterfalls are located 10 km. Na Haeo Road - Rom Klao towards Bo Muang Noi. The Phi Ta Khon FestivalCelebrated in late June - early July in Amphoe Dan Sai, this festival is one of the most amazing annual events in the region of Isan.
